Art credits
Effective date: October 17, 2026. This page lists the art shipped with Protect the Tavern. The operator is Suepaphly. Questions go to the project's GitHub issues.
Original art in this repository
The phase A1 pack under activity/assets/ is original work made for The Ol' Innkeeper. It is covered by the repository's ISC license. That includes the world map, map tiles, town base, building cut-outs, UI frame, parchment card, invasion overlays, charter level marks, casino / crypt / road boards, crests, and icons.
Those images are painted by scripts/art/render-placeholders.js from the layout in scripts/art/layout.js. They are placeholders: readable at a glance, lined up with the hotspot polygons, and meant to be replaced in place. The style rules are in activity/art/STYLE.md.
Character portraits under activity/assets/portraits/ are original too. scripts/art/render-portraits.js paints the same layered bust that /api/portrait serves: body, skin, hair, eyes, outfit, accessory, and banner. They are not Kenney or Liberated Pixel Cup parts.
Style references
Two reference stills were generated for this project and stored at:
activity/art/references/style-ref-town.jpgactivity/art/references/style-ref-map.jpg
They were produced with Cursor's image generation for The Ol' Innkeeper. There is no upstream asset license. They are original project art under the same ISC license, and they are the look later paintings have to match. They are not copied from a commercial pack.
What is not in the pack
This version does not include Kenney assets, Liberated Pixel Cup parts, or game-icons.net icons. Those are allowed later only if the file, author, license, and a link are added to the table below in the same change that adds the file.
- Kenney (kenney.nl) publishes CC0 packs. CC0 needs no attribution, but a credit line is still welcome.
- Liberated Pixel Cup character parts are CC-BY-SA or GPL. Shipping them requires this page to name the authors and to keep the share-alike terms.
- game-icons.net is CC BY 3.0. Shipping an icon requires the author and a link back to the icon.
No paid commission and no all-rights-reserved stock are used.
Public website
The landing page uses two paintings made for The Ol' Innkeeper. The sources are art/cover.jpg (the tavern at dusk, with the army on the hill) and art/tavern-background.jpg (the common room). scripts/site/optimize-art.js writes the WebP and the Open Graph JPEG under public/art/. They are original project art under the ISC license.
The six class busts on that page are rendered by lib/game/portrait.js, the same painter /api/portrait serves, and saved as WebP. They are not a separate pack.
Type
Map labels use a 5×7 bitmap face drawn in scripts/art/font.js for this pack. The public site uses Bangers for headings and the reader's Palatino or Georgia for body text. Bangers is the SIL Open Font License face by Vernon Adams and the Bangers Project Authors, Latin subset stored at public/fonts/bangers-latin.woff2, with the license in public/fonts/OFL-bangers.txt.

Replacing a placeholder
Keep the filename. Keep the clickable shape inside the polygon in activity/src/scenes/town.json or activity/src/scenes/world.json. Then run node scripts/art/pack-atlas.js and add a row to the table above if the new file is not original ISC art.
